Several folks have recommended *The Club Dumas*. One does need to beware
a not very subtle, and deeply dispiriting, undercurrent of homophobia
that characterizes this book.

Robert Grudin, *Book: A Novel* (Random 1992) -- from a lit crit p of v,
not simply conservative but downright reactionary; very funny anyway

Carlos María Domínguez, *The House of Paper* (Harcourt 2005) -- first as
*La casa de papel* (Montevideo: Ediciones de la Banda Oriental, 2002)

I haven't read any of this one, but it is on my own reading list:
How I Fell in Love with a Librarian and Lived to Tell About It

I have recently come across some good children's titles about
libraries and books too:

Beatrice Doesn't Want To
Stella Louella's Runaway Book
The Librarian of Basra
I'm Going to New York to Visit the Lions
